The Trooper Painting

Iron Maiden

The Trooper Painting

This is a painting I created, by working from a photograph of the Iron Maiden trooper album cover. I created it using watercolour pallet paints and a very fine size zero brush. I used a size zero brush because it allowed me to create a high level of detail, texture, tone and depth. It also allowed me to create the bone like effect, found on places like the skull.

I hope you like this piece.

Pencil Tone Portraits

Jimi Hendrix

I Produced this drawing by using various sketching pencils, on watercolour paper, by observing from a photograph of rock legend, Jimi Hendrix. I feel that the way I created his hair, gives a better effect of realism. As i tried to use the smallest pencil strokes possible, to create the curly "bouncy" afro effect.

Kurt Cobain

This was produced using the same materials as the Jimi Hendrix sketch However as Kurt Cobain had blond hair in the picture I copied from, it was quite hard to get the light contrast in tones, to create his hair. But I think I just about managed to pull it off.

Jim Morrison

This was the first pencil sketch I created out of the three, (as I am a huge Doors fan). However I think it is easy to see, by the slight lack in detail compared to the others. But I tried to use this as an advantage, by giving it a more minimalist aesthetic.
I think the high contrast of this piece also adds to an interesting focus, especially round the eyes and the shading on his jaw.
